Learn how to upload BIM models to Reconstruct using the Data Manager with ease. This guide details the necessary steps for uploading BIM models, highlighting Reconstruct's support for over 60 BIM model formats. Moreover, we'll offer insights on managing external links in your REVIT model and share valuable tips for enhancing the process.
Step 1: Access the Data Manager
First, log in to Reconstruct and access the Data Manager for your project.
Step 2: Navigate to the BIM Tab
Click on the BIM tab on the left-hand side of the screen.
Step 3: Upload BIM Models
Click on the "Upload BIM" button on the top right-hand side of the screen or drag and drop your BIM models to the center of the screen. Select the files from your local drive and click "Open".
Step 4: Monitor Upload Progress
Once you upload the BIM models, the "Upload Activity" icon at the top of the screen will expand to show the progress of the uploaded files. After the upload is complete and the progress bar reaches 100%, a new BIM model will show in the list of models with the status "Submitted."
Step 5: Activate the BIM Model
When the BIM model is translated and ready for use in Reconstruct, it will show the status as "Success," and you can proceed to activate the BIM model. It should only take a few minutes to see the success status. If you see any other status aside from “Success”, please reach out to the CSM.
Tips for Uploading BIM Models:
- Make sure your models are configured for Reconstruct, before uploading by removing any extraneous BIM elements from the model to aid in the performance of the program.
- It is recommended to use the Federated Navis model for faster load times for your project.
- If you have external links in your REVIT model, open the REVIT file and delete all links in the Manage Links tab or put all linked files in one directory and create links (relative to the main file). Create a zip file of all these linked models and upload the zip file into the BIM tab as a single zip file. Reconstruct will show one model in the viewer that federates all these models together.
- If you upload all the files of a composite model in a zip, you only have to upload a single file, and the file size will be smaller.
- Reconstructs supports more than 60 formats of BIM models.
Uploading Revit Models with External Links:
If a Revit model has external links, Autodesk servers might fail to convert this Revit model, since they'll look for the linked models that are not available in the file. To address this, you have two options:
Open the Revit file and delete all links in the Manage Links tab (RVT, IFC, DWG, etc.).
If you have access to the linked files, follow these steps:
a) Put all linked files in one directory.
b) Create links relative to the main file.
c) Create a zip file of all these linked models.
d) Upload the zip file into the BIM tab as a single zip file.
e) Reconstruct will show one model in the viewer that federates all these models together.
