The Reconstruct Capture App is the primary tool for capturing on-site visuals and sharing them with the Reconstruct project, thereby significantly improving your project management experience. This app simplifies the process of capturing images and video at your jobsite with remarkable ease. |
- Handles a variety of visual data, such as standard mobile camera photos and videos, and 360° images and videos.
- Effortlessly uploads captured content to the Reconstruct platform for processing.
- Facilitates easy sharing and collaboration within the project team.
- Divides functionality into two core areas: Reality Capture and Image Viewing, to optimize project management and collaboration efficiency.
Reconstruct Capture offers four versatile capture methods to suit your project needs:
- Photo Capture: Mark location of photos on location drawings and capture crisp images using your mobile camera.
- 360° Photo Capture: Mark location of 360° photos on location drawings and capture immersive photography with 360° photos.
- Video Capture: Create reality models from your smartphone or tablet video for equipment, trenches, or sections of your project.
- 360° Video Capture - Hyperlapse: Create reality models from 360° video for large areas of your project.
Capture App Methods
The Capture app offers a versatile and efficient suite of four methods for documenting your project. Whether you're using a mobile camera or a connected 360° camera, the app adeptly handles both photos and videos. What sets it apart is its intelligent organization of visual data.
Every image and video is categorized for each project based on customized locations, ensuring easy retrieval and reference. Moreover, all captured content is automatically synchronized with your project. This means that every piece of visual information is accessible to any user associated with the project, streamlining collaboration and enhancing project management efficiency.
1. Photo Capture:
This feature allows for easy photo snapping directly into your camera roll. But the real magic happens when you use the Capture app. It’s not just about taking pictures; it’s about smartly sharing and organizing them for your project.
When you capture an image, you can mark its position on a drawing, pinpointing the exact location. Over time, you can add more images for the same spot, creating a comprehensive visual timeline. This method is perfect for capturing detailed shots like equipment labels or noting deficiencies during inspections. It’s your go-to tool for any on-site photo documentation.
Take Photos with Capture App
Anyone with a smartphone can snap photos and pin their location on a project drawing. Images will be synchronized immediately with the project and anyone with permissions on the project can view them. |
View Photos on Web with Project Viewer
In the project web viewer, view the photos, organized by location and drawings.
2. 360° Photo Capture:
Similar to the standard image capture, but with a twist. Here, you can mark positions for 360° images and snap photos accordingly. This feature allows you and others to add more photos over time to the same position, enabling side-by-side comparisons. It’s ideal for situations where full reality models aren’t necessary. Opt for 360° Photo Capture when you need just a few comprehensive photos of each room. These images sync immediately with the Reconstruct platform and can be viewed on other mobile devices or through a web viewer.
Take 360° Photos with Capture App
Anyone with a smartphone and a 360° camera can snap photos and pin their location on a project drawing. Images will be synchronized immediately with the project and anyone with permissions on the project can view them.

3. Video Capture:
This method involves recording videos of specific areas or equipment at your project site using a smartphone. These video captures are automatically sent to Reconstruct to create a detailed reality model. This method is particularly useful when you need a measurable model and when photos alone aren’t sufficient. It’s excellent for capturing larger or more complex items like rooms, equipment, subassembly modules, trenches, or ceiling sections. However, it’s not the best choice for capturing expansive spaces – for that, you would use the 360° Hyperlapse Capture.
Anyone with a smartphone, can shoot a short video to create a reality model. Use Video Capture for:

After uploading, Reconstruct generates a 3D reality model. Users can view captured images, navigate through the point cloud, and take measurements for detailed analysis.
4. 360° Hyperlapse Capture:
With this method, you connect to a 360° camera and perform a video walk-through of the area. Upon completion, the video is sent to Reconstruct for 3D reconstruction, resulting in a comprehensive reality model. If you’re new to this, there’s guidance available in the “Getting Started with 360° Capture and Reality Modeling” section. The 360° Hyperlapse is an efficient and user-friendly method for capturing both indoor and outdoor spaces. It produces measurable reality models that can be overlaid with 2D drawings or 3D BIM, offering a rich, detailed perspective of the captured area.
After upload, Reconstruct creates a 3D Reality model complete with reality map, image walkthrough, and detailed point cloud.

A 20 minute hyperlaspse capture creates a reality model for you in several hours. Capture in the morning and view in the afternoon; capture in the afternoon and see the next morning. Shorter captures are complete in less than a couple hours.
