About Alignment
Reconstruct supports multiple file formats of 3D BIM and reality models. These models are often in different coordinate systems, scales, and orientations. Use the Alignment Tool to bring point clouds into alignment with each other or with BIM.
The Alignment Tool aligns (1) point clouds to BIMs and (2) point clouds to point clouds. Each alignment process changes the relationship between two models Reference Model and To-Align model by picking pairs of control points on both models. After the alignment process is completed, the Reference Model keeps its position, scale, and orientation, while the To-Align Model changes its position, scale, and/or orientation to minimize the collective error of all pairs of control points.
Every control point requires picking two separate points: one that needs to be placed on the Reference Model and one that needs to be placed in the To-Align Model. The alignment process transforms the position, scale, and orientation of the To-Align Model to minimize the distance between the two points in each control point pair.
