Make sure to check the alignment process for more information on the overall 3D alignment process and definitions. The general purpose of the Alignment Tool is to change the position, scale, and orientation of one point cloud in Reconstruct (the To-Align Model) to match those of another model (the Reference Model). After the alignment process, the Reference Model maintains its original position, scale, and orientation.
Reference Model
To choose the Reference Model, click on the drop-down menu in the "REFERENCE" section of the alignment tool. Choose any active BIM or point cloud to be the Reference Model. If you are unable to find the BIM or point cloud you want to use as the Reference Model in the drop-down menu, make sure that BIM or point cloud is activated in the Data Manager (activating BIM, activating point cloud).
The "REFERENCE" section has buttons to show/hide the Reference Model and to center the Reference Model in the current view.
To-Align Model
To choose the To-Align Model, click on the drop-down menu in the "TO-ALIGN" section of the alignment tool. Choose any active point cloud to be the To-Align Model. If you are unable to find the point cloud you want to use as the To-Align Model in the drop-down menu, make sure that point cloud is activated in the data manager (activating point cloud).
The "TO-ALIGN" section also displays information about the date of the images used to create the To-Align point cloud along with the name of the point cloud that was used for automatic alignment (if applicable, see step 5.4 in Processing Point Clouds).
Additionally, the "TO-ALIGN" section has buttons to show/hide the To-Align Model and to center the To-Align Model in the current view. Centering the To-Align Model is particularly useful in the case where the point cloud's original coordinate system (before alignment) is significantly far from the Reference Model's coordinate system.
